Ludacris is coming to Claremont....

Rap icon Ludacris is coming to Claremont, that's right I said Claremont!  He is going to be putting on a performance for the Claremont Colleges at the Bridges Auditorium.  The Bridges Auditorium is much smaller than most of the venues Ludacris plays, so an opportunity to see him their is one not worth missing.  The concert is for Claremont College students as well as the public.  Tickets are available on Ticketmaster for $45.00 plus Ticketmaster charges.  You can get your tickets here.  Ludacris just recently dropped a new record entitled "Theatre Of Mind" which is well worth a listen.  For more information on Ludacris check out his Myspace here.

Mike Ness at the Glasshouse...

Last night, the legendary Mike Ness completed his solo tour with a performance at Pomona's Glasshouse.  I had the privilege of attending the show.  Seeing Social Distortion (Mike Ness's main band) is always a treat but being able to see him perform his solo work is something every Social D fan should experience.  He opened the show with a twangy version of Social D's "Reach for the Sky" and then jumped into songs from his two solo records.  Brent Harding and Johnny "two bags" Wickersham from Social D backed up Ness on guitar and bass as well as Dave Raven on drums and Chris Lawrence on pedal steel.  Ness played songs spanning his solo album and his solo cover album which were both released in the late nineties as well as a couple countrified Social Distortion songs.  The show not only complemented Ness's superb talent but also showed off his love and respect for the older generation of American Rock.  Being able to see Ness and his band perform at such an intimate venue was a real treat as well.  Next time Ness comes around, I highly recommend attending.

Underoath Teams Up With Paul Frank

Metalcore band Underoath has teamed up with fashion designer Paul Frank to bring the fans a limited edition wallet based on the art work from the cover of Underoaths latest release entitled "Lost in the Sound of Separation".  The wallet comes in a limited edition box set.  The box set includes the wallet, a copy of "Lost in the Sound of Separation", Underoath guitar picks and headphones.  There are two options for the box set.  The first option is the box set with a regular copy of  the new album for $85 and the second is the box set with the deluxe version of the CD for $90.  The box sets are kind of expensive, but well worth it because these are only being distributed once.  After they sell out the only way you will be able to get this item is by paying an absurd amount of money for it on Ebay. Live Nation Makes a Huge Announcement....

Live Nation made a scene this past year when they announced that they would no longer be selling tickets to their shows through Ticketmaster and instead selling them through their very own Live Nation provider.  Before this announcement Ticketmaster had been the main way to purchase tickets to shows online or via phone.  Ticketmaster has also been known to have an absurd amount of extra charges on it's ticket stub.  For example, a ticket listed on Ticketmaster for the price of $40.00 really ends up being around $55.00 after convenience charges, taxes, etc.  Live Nation acknowledges the outcry from many consumers and decided to cut Ticketmaster out and provide tickets with very low extra charges.  Many major artists have already signed with Live Nations new venture such as Madonna, Jay-Z and U2.  This past week, Live Nation made an announcement that they have recently partnered up with Blockbuster and will be providing tickets for sale at many local Blockbuster locations starting in 2009.  This new venture that Live Nation has taken goes to show that they are proving to be a worthy opponent to Ticketmaster.

Great Deal on Tom Morello Tickets...

Tom Morello, The former guitarist for Rage Against the Machine and Audioslave is currently on tour with his latest project The Nightwatchman which is a political Folk alter-ego created by Morello.  Also on the tour, Morello plays some new songs for a project that he was been working on with Boots Riley entitled Street Sweeper.  This act consists of more Rap and Rock put together with Morello on guitar and Riley doing vocals.  Morello is stopping by the House of Blues in Anaheim to do a show on the 12th of December, which is this Friday.  House of Blues is offering two tickets to his show for the price of one, which in my opinion is a pretty good deal.  In order to take advantage of this deal, you will need to sign up for their mailing list, which only takes a few minutes. You can do all of that here.  For more information on Tom Morello, you can visit the website for his latest project, Nightwatchman here.

A Legend is Coming to The Glasshouse....

Mike Ness, The frontman for the infamous Social Distortion is currently doing a solo tour.  He has been playing a slew of California dates and selling out just about every one of them.  The solo Mike Ness strays from the classic Social D sound and burrows into a more country feel.  He rarely tours as a soloist so getting the chance to see him is one not to miss. Just last week it was announced that Ness will be playing The Glasshouse in Pomona.  The Glasshouse is a much smaller venue than most of the ones he has been playing so the performance will a lot more intimate.  Tickets are $30.00 and can be purchased through Ticketmaster here.  For more information on Mike Ness solo work, visit his Myspace here.

The Smashing Pumpkins at UCSD!!!

Last night I was able to see The Smashing Pumpkins perform at the Rimac Arena on the UCSD campus in San Diego.  The Pumpkins have been celebrating their 20th anniversary by doing a full U.S. Tour which if you know anything about them, is a really rare experience these days.  The show was nothing short of amazing.  The band came on promptly at 7:30 P.M. with no opening acts and played for two and half hours straight.  The set list varied songs from the entire past discography, Songs like "Bullet With the Butterfly Wings" and my personal favorite "Eye". They also had tracks from their latest album and latest E.P. and they even threw in a few progressive jams in between it all.  The Smashing Pumpkins are still playing two more shows at the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City and a few tickets are still available at the box office.  I recommend going, it is unclear when they will be back again. Taking Back Sunday - Club Nokia

Last night Taking Back Sunday played the new Club Nokia in Los Angeles.  Club Nokia is a new venue in LA that just recently started playing artists.  The venue itself is a step up from what is left of the more intimate venues, with a full bar and clean bathrooms. The lineup for the show was Taking Back Sunday, The International Noise Conspiracy and 3OH3!.  I arrived at the show late and ended up missing 30h3! but was able to catch the full INC set.  International Noise Conspiracy is a rock band from Sweden, their set was all right but just not really my type of music and not really the sound one would expect to hear while attending a TBS show.  After INC, Taking Back Sunday took over the stage. I've seen TBS a few times and they always put on a good show.  They played songs spanning their entire catalog and even played two new tracks from their new album "New Again," which has not been released yet.  The new songs were cool to hear because it marks the first time TBS has played them in southern California.  Next time TBS is in town, be sure to check them out and if a band you like is playing Club Nokia, I recommend seeing them at this new venue.

There was much speculation concerning the future of Post-hardcore band Escape The Fate when it was announced that their lead singer (Ronnie Radke) would no longer be fronting the band.  The rest of Escape The Fate decided to keep going and eventually recruited ex-Blessthefall vocalist Craig Mabbitt.  Their new album as well as first record to feature Craig Mabbitt as the vocalist was released in stores today.  The album is entitled "This War Is Ours" and is available at most record stores for the very low price of $9.99.  Although the album is a little different than the bands earlier releases, Mostly due to the fact that they have a new vocalist and is in my opinion a huge leap forward.  I recommend checking out the new Escape The Fate, you can view their Myspace here.  Escape The Fate is also currently on tour with Silverstein and Chiodos, the dates can also be seen on their Myspace page.

Tegan & Sara at the Fonda....

Last Friday I went to see Tegan & Sara at the Henry Fonda Theatre in Hollywood.  I missed the first opening act which was Girl In a Coma, due to the obscene amount of traffic on the 101, however,  I was able to catch the second act which was City and Colour.  City and Colour is the acoustic side project Dallas Green (Rhythm guitarist for Alexisonfire), It is nothing like his main band but is really amazing and totally worth a listen.  Check City and Colour via Myspace here.  After the second act, Tegan and Sara came out and began playing. The thing about a Tegan & Sara show that makes it completely worth your money is the fact that the band plays different renditions of some of the songs you hear on the albums.  They played their major hits as well as many of their older songs making it enjoyable for all of the fans.  Next time they are in town be sure to check them out, for up to date information on the band or in case you've never heard of them, go to their Myspace here. Pictures from the show will be up soon.

Rise Against is Still Going Strong.....

Post-hardcore band Rise Against released their follow up to "The Sufferer and The Witness" this past Tuesday.  The album entitled "Appeal To Reason" is the bands fifth full length release and yet again shows a band that keeps growing with every release they put out.  We live in a world where amazing bands get signed to major labels and then water down everything they put out.  This is not the case with Rise Against, Three major label albums in and the band still stays true to their convictions.  Be sure to pick up "Appeal To Reason" you will not be disappointed.  Rise Against is also on tour in support of the new album with Alkaline Trio and Thrice.  Check out the dates as well as some of the new tracks at the their Myspace here.
