Ludacris is coming to Claremont....

Rap icon Ludacris is coming to Claremont, that's right I said Claremont!  He is going to be putting on a performance for the Claremont Colleges at the Bridges Auditorium.  The Bridges Auditorium is much smaller than most of the venues Ludacris plays, so an opportunity to see him their is one not worth missing.  The concert is for Claremont College students as well as the public.  Tickets are available on Ticketmaster for $45.00 plus Ticketmaster charges.  You can get your tickets here.  Ludacris just recently dropped a new record entitled "Theatre Of Mind" which is well worth a listen.  For more information on Ludacris check out his Myspace here.

Mike Ness at the Glasshouse...

Last night, the legendary Mike Ness completed his solo tour with a performance at Pomona's Glasshouse.  I had the privilege of attending the show.  Seeing Social Distortion (Mike Ness's main band) is always a treat but being able to see him perform his solo work is something every Social D fan should experience.  He opened the show with a twangy version of Social D's "Reach for the Sky" and then jumped into songs from his two solo records.  Brent Harding and Johnny "two bags" Wickersham from Social D backed up Ness on guitar and bass as well as Dave Raven on drums and Chris Lawrence on pedal steel.  Ness played songs spanning his solo album and his solo cover album which were both released in the late nineties as well as a couple countrified Social Distortion songs.  The show not only complemented Ness's superb talent but also showed off his love and respect for the older generation of American Rock.  Being able to see Ness and his band perform at such an intimate venue was a real treat as well.  Next time Ness comes around, I highly recommend attending.

Live Nation Makes a Huge Announcement....

Live Nation made a scene this past year when they announced that they would no longer be selling tickets to their shows through Ticketmaster and instead selling them through their very own Live Nation provider.  Before this announcement Ticketmaster had been the main way to purchase tickets to shows online or via phone.  Ticketmaster has also been known to have an absurd amount of extra charges on it's ticket stub.  For example, a ticket listed on Ticketmaster for the price of $40.00 really ends up being around $55.00 after convenience charges, taxes, etc.  Live Nation acknowledges the outcry from many consumers and decided to cut Ticketmaster out and provide tickets with very low extra charges.  Many major artists have already signed with Live Nations new venture such as Madonna, Jay-Z and U2.  This past week, Live Nation made an announcement that they have recently partnered up with Blockbuster and will be providing tickets for sale at many local Blockbuster locations starting in 2009.  This new venture that Live Nation has taken goes to show that they are proving to be a worthy opponent to Ticketmaster.

Tom Morello, The former guitarist for Rage Against the Machine and Audioslave is currently on tour with his latest project The Nightwatchman which is a political Folk alter-ego created by Morello.  Also on the tour, Morello plays some new songs for a project that he was been working on with Boots Riley entitled Street Sweeper.  This act consists of more Rap and Rock put together with Morello on guitar and Riley doing vocals.  Morello is stopping by the House of Blues in Anaheim to do a show on the 12th of December, which is this Friday.  House of Blues is offering two tickets to his show for the price of one, which in my opinion is a pretty good deal.  In order to take advantage of this deal, you will need to sign up for their mailing list, which only takes a few minutes. You can do all of that here.  For more information on Tom Morello, you can visit the website for his latest project, Nightwatchman here.

A Legend is Coming to The Glasshouse....

Mike Ness, The frontman for the infamous Social Distortion is currently doing a solo tour.  He has been playing a slew of California dates and selling out just about every one of them.  The solo Mike Ness strays from the classic Social D sound and burrows into a more country feel.  He rarely tours as a soloist so getting the chance to see him is one not to miss. Just last week it was announced that Ness will be playing The Glasshouse in Pomona.  The Glasshouse is a much smaller venue than most of the ones he has been playing so the performance will a lot more intimate.  Tickets are $30.00 and can be purchased through Ticketmaster here.  For more information on Mike Ness solo work, visit his Myspace here.

The Smashing Pumpkins at UCSD!!!

Last night I was able to see The Smashing Pumpkins perform at the Rimac Arena on the UCSD campus in San Diego.  The Pumpkins have been celebrating their 20th anniversary by doing a full U.S. Tour which if you know anything about them, is a really rare experience these days.  The show was nothing short of amazing.  The band came on promptly at 7:30 P.M. with no opening acts and played for two and half hours straight.  The set list varied songs from the entire past discography, Songs like "Bullet With the Butterfly Wings" and my personal favorite "Eye". They also had tracks from their latest album and latest E.P. and they even threw in a few progressive jams in between it all.  The Smashing Pumpkins are still playing two more shows at the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City and a few tickets are still available at the box office.  I recommend going, it is unclear when they will be back again. For more information visit their Myspace here.
